Danielle Fournier
A music teacher affiliated with the École de musique Vincent-d’Indy and member of the Quebec Music Teachers’ Association (QMTA), Danielle Fournier is also active as an accompanist pianist, chamber musician and composer.
Her professional work has led her to create various arrangements and compositions. Several of her piano pieces are included in the programs of various educational institutions in Quebec, including those of the École de musique Vincent-d’Indy (Piano Repertoire) and the Anna-Marie Globenski Preparatory Music School at Laval University. In addition, her Petite rêverie pour Marie is included in the harp program (for beginners) of the Académie de musique du Québec. “Chanson pour Jimmy” and “Petite rêverie pour Marie” were recorded in 2007 by pianist Michel Fournier (CD album 17:05).
Danielle enjoys writing pieces in various styles that are enjoyable to play for young people of all ages. Her compositions are popular choices for exams, competitions and music festivals.
Most of her piano compositions can be found in the following two albums: Twelve Piano Pieces and Six Songs Without Words, published by 80 Days Publishing since 2022, after initially appearing with La Grande Portée, which she co-founded (since 1993) with her husband Gilles Naud.
Danielle is also the author of three collections of Christmas carols arranged for piano (including a volume of duets for beginners), also published by 80 Days Publishing.
In 2023, Danielle wrote two pieces for flute and piano, commissioned by Karen North (a flute teacher in Australia and founder of Allegro Music Publishing) for her upcoming book Lyrical Flute Miniatures. This book, published in February 2024, and intended for beginner-intermediate flutists, contains around forty original pieces all commissioned by Karen North, including Gaelic Dance and The Cheerful Flutist, written by Danielle.
Directory
Always on the lookout for new works for my students, I love discovering new contemporary pieces that are both accessible and pleasant to listen to. Several women, often teachers, write little gems of pieces for young players.
Among them, I particularly appreciate the following composers: the Canadians Anne Crosby, Christine Donkin and Linda Niamath as well as the Americans Susan Alcon, Melody Bober, Eugénie Rocherolle and Catherine Rollin.
It is in this spirit of discovery and always for pleasure that I write my own.
Compositions and arrangements for piano
My piano albums sometimes include a selection of my individual pieces, sometimes written for my students, and sometimes a series of arrangements of Christmas carols.

Exploring Salon Music of the Past
Step back in time to the elegant salons of the early 1900s, where another musical genre reigned supreme. Salon music, with its enchanting melodies and lively rhythms, captivated audiences and set the stage for unforgettable gatherings. Danielle and her brother pianist, Michel Fournier, lead us on a journey to uncover the hidden gems of this bygone era.
Christopher Norton:
"I cannot recommend this book more highly - students will respond to the beautiful melodies, piquant harmonies and composerly attention to detail. A set of the pieces would be a wonderful addition to a recital programme for an intermediate player."
-- In the Music Blog of pianist-composer Christopher Norton.

Karen North:
"Some music you just can’t help but smile when you hear or play it, and this is one of those pieces!
“The Cheerful Flutist” is a delightful new work by Canadian composer Danielle Fournier, a perfect new piece for flute students.
Danielle says: “This piece is about a friendly and cheerful flutist who, happy as a lark, loves to stroll in remote landscapes, playing sweet melodies that bring good humor to whoever happens to hear them! Perhaps it's you?
In any case, I hope this music can bring you happiness!”
